Review: Yes to Coconut Ultra Hydrating Melting Cleanser

Affiliate and referral links used.*

Hey everyone. I hope you had a better weekend than I did. I have been battling a cold for a few days and losing. Flat out losing. Damn you germs! I don't have much to share about my weekend because I kept it low key and tried to rest as much as possible so I didn't anger the cold and make it worse.

So since I don't have much to share on the life front. Let's get straight into the topic of this post. Today I'm reviewing the Yes to Coconut Ultra Hydrating Melting Cleanser ($9.99, 4 fl. oz.) that I picked up in my most recent ULTA Haul.

If you've been around this blog for a while, you know I have a weakness for cleansing oils.

Ok, I have a weakness for beauty products in general. But I love cleansing oils so much that I feel it's almost a duty to try as many as I can.

I'm really happy that the cleansing oil craze made it to the U.S. and that more and more drugstore brands are joining the party and adding them to their lines. As you may remember, the Neutrogena Cleansing Oil is one of my favorites. So naturally, when I saw this Yes to Coconut Ultra Hydrating Melting Cleanser, I had to try it.

This one is different from your traditional cleansing oil since it's more on the thicker, solid-ish side of things. But nevertheless, it's an oil cleanser with the main active oils being coconut oil and moringa seed oil. All this adds up to my having to try it.

Check out my video review below to find out what I thought. Hint: Dry skin peeps should pay attention! Then let me know if you try it out too (or if you already have!!).

ULTA Beauty Haul | July 2016

It's been a minute and a half since I uploaded a beauty haul for you guys -- and I know that you like them.

So we're staring off this week by distracting you with a little bit of my weekend shopping shenanigans. Let's ignore Monday with a little weekend nostalgia. Shall we?

This shopping trip was brought to you by the 20% off entire purchase coupon from ULTA. If you haven't joined their rewards program, I'm not sure what you're waiting for. It's a damn good one. Earn points, cash those points in for money off your purchase, get reward member coupons. And if you make it to platinum status, you'll earn points faster, and get access to platinum member special sales, discounts and coupons.

I basically only shop at ULTA when I have a 20% coupon these days, unless I'm out of something and need to get it right now or if it's a non prestige item and I can use a regular ULTA coupon that comes in their weekly flyer. If you use my referral link to join the ULTA Rewards program, you'll earn a $10 off coupon (and then when you join you get your own referral link too!)

Ok, now let's take a peek and see what's in that shopping bag! Oh by the way, what was the last beauty purchase you made? Comment below and tell me!

Five Ways to Use Evian Mineral Facial Mist + Giveaway (closed)

*This post contains press samples*

I was so excited for the chance to work with Evian to share my favorite ways to use a mineral facial mist. You've probably seen these in the beauty aisles at the drugstore and even at your favorite beauty retailers. If you're anything like me, you probably thought they were only meant for those who suffer from dry skin. After all, you mist your face with water to hydrate, right?

Well, you're partially right.

But after actually trying a facial mist for myself, I discovered it's a multi-tasking powerhouse. I've been hooked ever since.

Let me share a little history with you:

My first time using evian's mineral facial mist was way back in 2006, on my first trip to Las Vegas. That's when I discovered just how badly a five hour plane ride affected my skin! I rushed to the drugstore on my way to my hotel looking for some relief. That's when I picked up my first travel-sized bottle ($7.50) and experienced a little instant relief for my parched skin.

I never looked back.

I didn't just alleviate my acute case of airplane skin, it helped me adjust to the dry desert air. This Florida girl had never experienced dry air before! I was completely out of my element.

After I got back home, I had to figure out how to integrate it into my regular routine. And over the years, I discovered all the awesome things that my little bottle of evian® spray could do for me.

Today, I'm sharing my five favorite ways to use evian® mineral facial spray ($18 for 10 oz).  Watch my video to see why this is one product you should definitely add to you beauty bag.

So now that you know my favorite uses, what are some of yours? Comment below and share your tips with the rest of us!

But wait! Enter to win an evian® summer prize package ($75 value)!

Five (5) winners will receive:

  • A $25 Sephora gift card
  • 10 oz evian® Facial Spray
  • 5 oz evian® Facial Spray
  • Three 1.7 oz travel-size evian® Facial Sprays
*Giveaway closes 6/5/16. Winners chosen by evian®.

Influenster Spice Vox Box Unboxing

I got another Influenster Vox Box! This time, they selected me for the Spice Vox Box.

If you don't know about Influenster, I'm pretty sure anyone can sign up and join. You then connect your social media accounts and answer some questions. Based on your interests, Influenster will select you to receive certain boxes and products and you are expected to test the products out and review them and share your thoughts on social media. Influenster will provide you with a variety of different options for how to share products on your social media. For example, if you get a hair product, or a makeup product, you may be asked to share a photo of you using the product on Instagram or tweet your favorite thing about that product, etc.

If they think you'll be a good fit for an upcoming voxbox, they'll send you a survey. You'll answer the survey questions, and then they'll determine if you'll get the next box. If you are, they'll send it. You won't know what's in the box or what kind of products you're getting until the box arrives (so there's no way -- at least none that I know of -- to cheat the system and respond to survey questions in a way that would get you selected for a box).

OK, consider yourselves a little more informed. Now let's take a look at what I got in my recent Spice Vox Box.

Sephora VIB Sale Haul | November 2015

Shopping! Shopping! Shopping! I can't resist a good sale and there are quite a few going on -- including Sephora's VIB sale that took place a few weeks ago. I had a few gift cards (thanks to my sister and hubbie) burning a hole in my pocket and I couldn't resist spending them any longer. After all, it's not real spending if you use a gift card, right? RIGHT!

Here are all the goodies I picked up for 20% off. Just a few ideas for you to consider as you write out your holiday wishlist or think of stuff to get the beauty lover on your "nice" list.

Ipsy Unbagging & Review | November 2015

Ipsy November 2015 unbagging & review, @girlythingsby_e

Hey everyone! It's Ipsy bag time again. I got my bag a week ago and got super busy at work so I didn't get a chance to film the unbagging before I started playing around with everything in my bag (I just couldn't wait, you guys get it, right?). So instead of filming just a regular old unbagging, I'm coming at you with a review of my November Ipsy bag.

I've been using the products for a week, so I feel like I can at least give you a little overview of how I felt about each item I received. This way you get more than just a peek at what's inside. What do you guys think of this format instead? Do you want to hear how the products perform? Or, nah, you just want to see what's inside? Comment below and let me know.

For all of you out there on the interwebs who are new to the ipsy thing -- here's the low down:
  • You can join Ipsy for $10 (+ tax) per month. Every month you get five (5) personalized beauty samples. They typically include at least one full-size product and the rest of the items are deluxe samples (usually travel sized). In other words, you get a lot more than $10 worth of products.
  • You can get additional discounts using Ipsy discount codes if you decide to buy full-sized versions of the products you received.
  • You can earn points by reviewing the products you receive or through referrals and you can use those points to add additional items to your glam bag (as you'll see in this month's video)
  • Also -- just as an aside -- I pay for my subscription out of pocket, so these posts are not sponsored nor are the items press samples.
Now you can consider yourself fully informed. Onward with the video!

Like this post? There are more Ipsy unbaggings to be seen! Don't forget to subscribe (new videos every week).

Beauty Product Favorites | September 2015

Today marks a first here at Girly Things. I've finally started making favorites videos. I was intimidated by the idea for a long time -- afraid I wouldn't have enough material to make those kinds of videos regularly. But then it dawned on me, I try out a lot of products. And a lot of the time, I don't end up reviewing them because, time. Filming individual product reviews is time consuming. So sometimes, by the time I get around to reviewing each item, no one really cares about them anymore. So, I end up with a bunch of tested products that I don't end up telling you about.

Well, no more.

I think bringing favorites videos to you will help resolve that. I can quickly tell you about several products I'm digging all in one video. I'm a bit nervous about whether I'll have something to talk about every month. But then again, why does that matter? I can share every month. I can share every other month. As long as I'm sharing, that's what matters, right? After all, it worked well with my blog posts about my favorite drugstore products.

Maybe I should start doing those again... or turn them into a video series. Thoughts? Do you prefer drugstore and high-end in separate videos, or just a mix of favorites that include both?

While you ponder on that question, let's go ahead and check out my first favorites video. Then don't forget to tell me what you thought and share it with your friends.

Unboxing: Ipsy Glam Bag August 2015

Alright guys, I'm keeping my promise from last month. I filmed my Ipsy unbagging for August on time! I'm so proud of myself. I actually filmed within days of it arriving in the mail.

Help me stick to it next month with a little bit of comment encouragement. Tell me what you think of the products I received. If you're an Ipsy member, tell me what you thought of the items you received this month. Heck, just leave a comment about anything related to this month's Ipsy glam bag.

If I know you like these types of posts, I'll keep them up!

OK, before we get into video watching -- a little info about Ipsy:
  • I pay for my Ipsy subscription out of pocket. That means this video is not sponsored and the items received were not press samples.
  • You too can join Ipsy and get your own little monthly beauty surprise. For $10 (+ tax)/month you get five (5) personalized beauty samples. They typically include at least one full-size product and the samples received are deluxe size (typically travel size actually). What does that mean? You get more than $10 worth of product and the samples are big enough to get several uses out of each product (so you know whether or not it works for you).

Enjoyed this video? Check out some of my previous Ipsy bags.

Review: Influenster Fresca Vox Box

This is what happens when you forget to hit publish... Sometimes I wonder if I'm losing my mind. Just to give you an idea -- I filmed and published this video last month. And this whole time I thought I'd also shared it on this blog.

Well, better late than never, right?

Here's the skinny:

Influenster sent me a box of goodies to test out and review. I did that and here is the video evidence:

Now, excuse me while I got order some Ginko Biloba or some other memory improvement supplement. Clearly, I need help remembering stuff.

Unboxing: Ipsy Glam Bag July

But, I'm back again. So let's not dwell on the past and enjoy the right now. Let's dive in to see what I got in my July Ipsy Glam Bag -- because getting a beauty surprise in the mail for $10/month is fun. You know you love it.

Oh, let's get little disclaimers out of the way too:

Haul + Mini Review | Freeman Beauty Face Masks

Shopping, shopping, and more shopping. A beauty fanatic's job never ends. Ha! My life is tough, eh? Well, thank goodness for sales because otherwise, I'd be facing a mountain of debt. Thankfully, strategic shopping keeps my fanatical obsession with beauty products from putting me in the poor house. In fact, I'm a smart gal, I stash money away every month in savings because: beauty and brains people. I can't actually live inside Sephora and ULTA shipping boxes. And planning for the future is important and stuff. But enough financial lessons, there are plenty of blogs out there dedicated to that topic.

Speaking of smart shopping (although in my case still mildly exaggerated), I was watching a Youtube video over at Minimeeshie21's channel when the urge to buy everything hit. Isn't that the way it always goes? Youtube made me do it. I should probably limit my Youtube watching just to avoid temptation.

What am I saying?! You know I won't.

Anyway, she was talking face masks, which got me thinking that the only ones I have are my three mini GlamGlow masks. I've long since run out of my Queen Helene drugstore standbys and it was high time I tried out some Freeman Beauty masks since they get such great reviews. Plus, they have so many options. And they're cheeeeaaaaap. Add to that Mini Meeshie's BOGO coupon (Buy 3 Get 3) and it was like the shopping stars aligned in my favor. By the way, if you want that code, there's a link in my video that'll help you out. But you have to watch. How's that for incentive?

Check out which masks I bought and what I thought of the ones I've tried out so far. And don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe because you know it makes my day.

Items purchased:
All masks purchased retailed for $4.29. If you spend $25 you get free shipping.

I recently received the Viva VoxBox from Influenster that contained some beauty related goodies. This video is to show you what was in the box. If there's anything in there you're particularly interesting in learning more about, be sure to comment so I know to do those reviews first.

What do you think? Anything in there grab your interest?

Reviva Labs Skincare Giveaway

I recently learned about Reviva Labs, a natural skincare company that's been around for 40 years. Clearly, I've been hiding under a rock. My blogging friends have been reviewing these products for a hot minute. They all have wonderful things to say. And here I am all clueless E, twiddling my thumbs without a care in the world.

Well, folks -- let me take a moment to end that right now. I am now officially curious to try these products out. While perusing their site, I stumbled on a few items I'd like to check out (two of which you could win for yourself!).

Hydrogen Peroxide Green Papaya Mask: Papaya is said to have amazing beauty benefits. It's supposed to do fabulous things for your skin and hair. Among it's many benefits, it moisturizes, exfoliates, improves luminosity, treats discoloration -- and it's pretty tasty to boot (but don't eat the mask). Add to that the fact that I love a nice moisturizing weekly mask treatment and this product just calls out my name. (P.S. It's good for all skin types too)

Lighten & Brighten Dark Spot Serum: I didn't always listen to skin care advice in my teens and (super) early 20s. That led to a more-than-lax SPF policy back then, which was bad news considering my love for (and proximity to) the beach. Now I'm paying the price in the form of little spots. I've come a long way in treating the aftermath of my bad choices. But there's still a little ways to go. This product naturally peaks my curiosity.

Light Skin Peel: I looove a nice gentle skin peel. It's done wonders to help me treat the above mentioned skin issues. It's also done amazing things for my skin's texture. Can we say soft and supple? Getting peels done professionally can cost upwards of $80 (and over) per visit. While I love a session with the esthetician, I can't visit as often as I'd like (life, money, 'ish...). This seems like a promising in-between-visits option. (Another gentle-enough-for-all-skin-types product)

But here's the good news for you. This post isn't just my little wish list.  Reviva Labs has graciously provided six of their most popular products (valued at $61) for one of you to take home for yourselves. It's all part of a collaboration giveaway with the Central Florida Beauty Bloggers.

Update: This contest is now closed. Congratulations to Julie L.! I hope you enjoy your new skincare goodies!

And don't worry. You don't have to go follow all of us to enter. You can if you want to (you get extra entries that way), but that's totally up to you. All you have to do to enter is follow the Rafflecopter entry instructions below and you're in.

The giveaway starts today (4/4/14) and ends Friday, April 18 (4/18/14). Open to U.S. residents only.

Here's what you can win:

Light Skin Peel ($20 value)
Seaweed Soap ($4 value)
Skin Energizing Gel ($10 value)

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Good luck!

L'Oreal Visible Life CC Eye Concealer

It's official. I found an eye brightening concealer I like as much (maybe more?) than my Maybelline Dream Lumi. Holy cow. I'm shocked. This concealer comes packaged as a roller ball, which makes application super simple and has that nice cooling effect when you apply. It's a much thinner consistency than Dream Lumi, but you can definitely build it up. If you're looking to conceal super dark circles, you may still need a correcting concealer (something a tad more opaque), but if you're looking for brightening effects, don't pass this one by.

c. Booth Tahitian Monoi Dry Oil Spray

You guys, this is quite possibly the best smelling oil I've ever come across. They need to make a whole line of this scent. It's freakin' amazing. I want to pump it through the air vents in my home and car so I can smell it all day every day. It's that good. And once I actually stop to pay attention to how well this product works, I'm pleased to report it's good as well. Spray this on any time of the day. Rub it in. It absorbs pretty quickly, doesn't leave oily residue behind, makes your skin feel soft and moisturized, and smells divine. Get a few of them. Keep them everywhere. I'm obsessed.

Milani Nail Lacquer

Another drugstore nail polish line that offers great color selection and fantastic formulation at a budget-friendly price. My current favorite is Power Periwinkle. Check out my swatch and review here

John Frieda Frizz Ease 3 Day Straight Flat Iron Spray

I received a sample bottle of this spray recently in an Influenster Voxbox and was pretty excited to try it out. I love getting keratin treatments to help battle Florida humidity and make styling my naturally curly (read: frizzy) hair into straight styles that won't fall to pieces the second I step outside. But keratin treatments cost a pretty penny. 3 Day Straight was super easy to use, incredibly light weight, and delivered super smooth tresses that laughed at humidity for 72 hours. The catch: You have to spray a good amount into damp hair (I did 15 spritzes), then blow dry, and then finish off with a flat iron to seal it all in. It's a bit time consuming, but the results are worthwhile. All you'll need to do are quick touch ups to fix any kinks you get from sleeping.

Yes to Carrots Facial Cleansing Towelettes

If you have sensitive skin and need makeup removing wipes that are both effective and fragrance free, give these Yes to Carrots cleansing towelettes a go. They effectively remove dirt and makeup without stinging. Plus, they're properly moistened (I know, I know, that word) so they can wipe everything away. No one likes a dry wipe. Ouch! Keep an eye out for instant coupons on the packaging. I purchased mine for $5.99, but it had a $3 off instant coupon attached. Talk about a bargain.

NYX Infinite Shadow Pencils

The jumbo pencil craze is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. NYX made quite a splash with it's infamous jumbo shadow pencils, but their downfall was all the creasing (primer to the rescue!). But now they've released the jumbo pencil's newer, better, sibling -- the infinite shadow sticks. They come in nine neutral shades that you can slap on, blend, and go. And these babies don't budge! My personal favorite: Almond a pearly taupe.

Review: Sephora Supreme Cleansing Oil

Sephora Supreme Cleansing Oil review, @girlythingsby_e

I am a cleansing oil nut. I've been addicted to them for the past 3 years and I fear there is no turning back. Aw, hell. I don't fear it, I know it. There's no way I could go back to my old ways. At least, not for long.

I've waxed poetic about how much I love these products before. But I don't think you guys truly understand the nature of this obsession. At the exact moment I type this post, there are two more bottles of cleansing oil in my beauty pantry just waiting, on deck, for when I run out of the current one. I am never without cleansing oil. It's that serious, you guys. I'll never tire of testing new ones out. The struggle is real.

If you're not familiar with cleansing oil, let's go through a quick refresher. They are an extremely efficient and gentle way to cleanse makeup off your skin without stripping it off essential moisture, tugging on your precious skin, or making you suffer from oiliness. In other words, they're a miracle. And almost all the ones I've encountered are good for all skin types. I'm looking at you oily-skinned folks. Yes you can use it. In fact, you may even find it helps reduce your oiliness (even if a little because it's not stripping your skin).

Anyway, my adventures in cleansing oil testing led me to Sephora's Supreme Cleansing Oil. I was super excited to stumble on this one because it was the first oil I came across that cost less than $20 (I discovered this one before Garnier released their drugstore cleansing oil). In case you didn't know, the $15 price point (for 6.4 fl. oz.) is a big deal. Most cleansing oils will easily cost you $25 and up. So, saving $10, was pretty exciting.

Sephora Supreme Cleansing Oil, review, @girlythingsby_e

Here's what Sephora says about their product on their site:

What it is:A gentle makeup remover suitable for all skin types.
What it is formulated to do:Remove every trace of even the most resistant makeup with this soap-free formula. There’s no need for cotton pads—simply pump into the hands and rub onto dry skin. Add water to change the oil into smooth lotion. Effective yet gentle, this cleansing oil is suitable for sensitive skin and leaves the face soft and perfectly cleansed, without an oily film.
What it is formulated WITHOUT:- Parabens- Sulfates - Synthetic Dyes - Phthalates- GMOs- Triclosan
What else you need to know:This cleansing oil has been dermatologically and ophthalmogically tested.
Seems promising enough, right? Let's see how everything measures up.

Packaging:

I love that this is packaged in a pump container. It makes it much easier to dispense product without spilling or over pouring (which can be messy on your countertops when it comes to oil). Just be sure you pump this into the palms of your hand (not your finger tips) because it's not a thick oil. It will easily drip off your fingers tips and then you have to clean up the countertop.

Pump-top containers are my favorite packaging for cleansing oils. This was an easy selling point for me at the store.

Performance and consistency

Sephora Supreme Cleansing Oil has a bit of a watery texture. For reference, it's about the same consistency as MAC's and Philosophy's cleansing oils. If this is your first cleansing oil, it's thinner than olive oil. It spreads evenly and easily on your skin and doesn't feel heavy or thick. One to two pumps of product is enough to remove a full face of makeup.

Make sure you apply it to dry skin, using dry hands or it will emulsify before you even start to use it. If you've never used a cleansing oil, this takes some getting used to. But you get the hang of it quickly.

From my experience, Sephora's cleansing oil is on par with its higher end competitors. It removes makeup easily without tugging or pulling. It will easily take on waterproof makeup and melt it away like it's nothing. I used it to easily remove waterproof liner and waterproof airbrush foundation and there was no struggle whatsoever. If you wear heavy eye makeup, you'll need to pay particular attention to your eye area during removal (as you would with any cleansing oil or other makeup removal process). Gently massage the oil over your lids and rub your lashes between your fingertips. It will all come off with surprising ease.

Once you're done massaging it into your skin, simply add water. It will turn a milky consistency, and rinse cleanly away. This cleansing oil rinsed off easily and left no residue behind. My skin felt clean without feeling tight or stripped and felt ready for my moisturizer and remaining routine.

If you so choose, you can follow up with your regular cleanser. I usually feel comfortable enough skipping it and going directly into the rest of my skincare routine.

Note: I use cleansing oils for makeup removal. If I am not wearing makeup, then I use a regular cleanser to wash my face at night.

I did no experience any breakouts when using this cleanser.

Cost and availability

I've already mentioned this retails for $15. It's at least $10 less than most brand name cleansing oils out there. But it's more expensive than Garnier's drugstore version. It has 6.4 fl. oz. of product in it, which is more than what you get from the drugstore. But the primary selling point for the price is that it's good for all skin types (while Garnier's is geared specifically for those with dry skin -- it leaves moisturizing residue behind).

It's easily accessible at Sephora stores and online. But if you see it, pick it up, because I do notice it's often sold out online.

Fragrance

It has a subtle fresh scent to it that made me think of a mix of freshly cut grass and citrus blossoms. It's not strong or perfume like, but it is scented. I personally find the fragrance pleasant.

Ingredients

Here's the list of ingredients available on Sephora's website. I know some of you out there try to avoid mineral oil. If that's your inclination, then you've been duly informed: This product contains mineral oil. If you prefer to go mineral oil free, check out Philosophy Purity cleansing oil as an alternative ($25).
-Cottonseed Oil: Softens. -Vitamin E: Antioxidant and moisturizing action. Improves skin radiance and tissue tone. -Vitamin A: Antioxidant.
Paraffinum Liquidum (Mineral Oil), PEG-6 Sostearate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Crambe Abyssinica Seed Oil, Gossypium Herbaceum (Cotton) Seed Oil, Fragrance, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, BHT.

Overall thoughts

If you're looking to save a little money on cleaning oils, Sephora has developed a heavy-hitting contender with its Supreme Cleansing Oil. Its performance is on par with higher end competitors at a more affordable price point. I'd easily repurchase it and enthusiastically recommend it to my cleansing-oil-loving (and curious) friends. It's worth the switch. You won't be disappointed.

Are you a cleansing oil fanatic? Have you tried Sephora's version? Did you like it as much as I did? Tell me all your thoughts. Let's chit chat about it.
