Review: NYX Epic Ink Waterproof Eyeliner | Dupe Alert! | New at the Drugstore

This post contains affiliate and referral links.*

So you guys know that my mission in life is to find the best liquid liner and tell you about it, right?

(OK, so maybe I also like to tell you about all kinds of other beauty products too, but liquid liner is definitely a favorite)

Remember how excited I was about the Jesse's Girl Liquid Liner? Well, if you were bummed that you didn't live near a Rite aid, then I've got more good news for you. NYX unleashed a new liquid liner onto the market that sent shivers down my spine and gave me that fluttery feeling in my stomach.

Yep, it's that serious.

Let me introduce you to the NYX Epic Ink waterproof liner ($7.99, 0.03 oz). Does it remind you of anything?

NYX Epic Ink Liner, @girlythingsby_e

If you said it reminds you of the Kat von D Tattoo liner, then you had the same thought I did. And let me tell you, when I saw it at the store, a actually let out a happy little squeal (and got a few side-eye stared -- but they just don't understand the magic, now do they?).

As soon as I read the description, I knew I had to buy it and test it out. Check it out (description from NYX's site, emphasis by me):

Live for super-sharp wing inspo? Don't just "like" all your faves, draw 'em yourself using NYX Cosmetics' Epic Ink Liner. Featuring a slender and supple brush tip, this intensely pigmented, waterproof pen lets you achieve black liquid lines effortlessly. Every stroke is unbelievably fluid for a defined finish. Control the thickness of your lines by pressing down just a touch. Fine and natural, broad and bold - the look is always up to you!

Mmmmmhmmmm... I needed it. And since ULTA was having a buy one, get one half off sale, I purchased the last two in the store that day (because I'm extra like that). If it was indeed a dupe, I wasn't about to ever be without it.

Check out my video below to see the NYX Epic Ink Liner in action and side-by-side with my Tattoo Liner to see for yourself.

Review: NYX Total Control Drop Foundation | New at the Drugstore

This post contains affiliate and referral links.*
Hey everyone! Happy New Year! We're excited to kick off 2017 with a new product review.
Judging by all the promising new products popping up on my instagram feed and the shelves at a beauty aisle near you, we might be in store for a great year -- at least in the beauty arena.

Today we are going to tell you about the NYX Total Control Drop Foundation (0.43 oz, $14) that recently hit shelves at ULTA.  Currently, 14 shades are available online, and six in store, but come January 28 the full line of 24 shades officially releases. (NOTE: You can get all 24 shades directly from NYX now.)

NYX Total Control Drop Foundation, @girlythingsby_e
NYX Total Control Drop Foundation 07 Natural
NYX's Total Control Foundation's dropper bottle design (pictured above) reminds me of the Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum and the Sephora Collection Teint Infusion Ethereal Natural Finish Foundation. Honorable mention to the Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation for also having a dropper bottle design, albeit a sleek black bottle instead of frosted glass.

Many people are wondering if NYX is creating a dupe for the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops, but I think they're actually trying to replicate serum foundations (like the ones previously mentioned) instead.

The difference? CoverFX Custom Drops are meant to be mixed with your skincare or current foundations in order to adjust coverage, while NYX's foundation is meant to stand alone as your foundation. And in my testing I can say it's definitely not a dupe for the CoverFX drops. And I haven't tested other serum foundations, so I can't compare.

But, regardless of whether or not this product is a drugstore dupe for a higher end brand, the fact remains that the claims are alluring.

According to NYX the Total Control Drop Foundation:
  • Offers adjustable coverage  (sheer to full coverage) by simply adjusting the number of drops used (the box provides a legend)
  • Provide a velvety matte smooth finish that's light weight

The matte finish makes me think this is geared toward those with combination to oily skin. Those with dry skin might not want to try this, or if they do, moisturize well before hand and use a hydrating primer.

Check out my video review to learn more about the foundation, see me apply it to find out if it's truly buildable, and find out my final thoughts.

Is this foundation gunning for holy grail status or is it just alright? Let's find out.

How to Conceal Redness or Acne on Skin using Color Correction feat. NYX HD Studio Concealer Wand

This post contains affiliate and referral links. *
Alright. It seems like concealing skin imperfections ranks high on your need-to-know list. Can't blame ya. Few things take the wind right out of your sail quite like skin troubles. I get it. I've been there.

We recently discussed how to use color correction to make dark under eye circles vanish.

And you guys requested more.

Specifically, you want to know how to hide redness on your skin when foundation and concealer alone aren't doing the trick.

Whether its a pimple rearing it's ugly head, rosacea, or a red nose courtesy of the winter weather, you can use color correction to conceal it.

The same color theory principles apply here. But instead of reaching for an orange tone, you'll be reaching for green. A green color corrector, like the NYX HD Studio Concealer Wand ($4.99), will help counteract red tones in your skin.

Why? Because red and green fall on opposite sides of the color wheel.

Now, let's take a look at how to use green color corrector to hide redness in your skin in the video below. Don't forget to keep submitting your requests!

How to Cover Dark Under Eye Circles feat. NYX Dark Circle Concealer

This post contains affiliate and referral links.*

Whether you suffer from them often or only occasionally, I think we can all agree on one thing:

Under eye circles are a drag. They need to be annihilated.

As if going about your day to day responsibilities weren't tiring enough, along come dark under eye circles to emphasize your exhaustion.

Worse yet?

When they seem to permanently stick around, no matter how much sleep you get, as if to announce to the world that you're some kind of tired old hag.

Well, eff that.

Let's render those suckers invisible and continue kicking ass at whatever we're doing today.

You can conceal dark circles quickly and effectively with color correction. If dark circles are your nemesis, then then a peach, salmon, or orange toned corrector is your weapon of choice. It all comes down to color theory. Orange falls on the opposite side of blue on the color wheel, making the orange tones of your corrector counteract the blue tones in your under eye circles.

You can combine your favorite concealer with a bit of corrector  to mask them. Or you can look for a concealer that already has a peachy/salmony/orangey tone to it, like the NYX Dark Circle Concealer ($5.99), for a one-step approach (an excellent choice if you battle dark circles regularly).

Let me show you how.

Products I've Used Up | Makeup | #Empties

I'm back! Please forgive my unpredictable posting "schedule" -- life's just getting in my way. And it's not even exciting life stuff. It's the mundane stuff that's not even interesting to post about on social media. Nobody wants to watch a Snap about me sitting behind a desk working all day. YAWN. (I nodded off typing that sentence)

So, let's just leave it at this: I've been adulting.

But one exciting thing did happen last week. We got a new couch, finally. Our old one had been through five moves (read beat up). Suffered countless spills. Had a hole that always swallowed the remote. And the cats got sick on it a few too many times (all thoroughly cleaned, but still, I knew the incidents happened). Plus, I was tired of looking at it and ready for a different aesthetic.

I finally got it. My living room is now brighter, cozier and more open and inviting. I'm currently typing from the cuddler corner of the couch (an extra large corner seating area) as giddy as a school kid meeting their favorite boy band member. It's which quickly become my cozy little pillow and throw blanket covered nook.

And that is what qualifies as exciting in my world lately. Yup. That's full fledged adulting. And just in case you think I've reached some adult life low, it's been worse. I've also gotten stupid excited about a new vacuum. Basically, couch excitement is a step up.

Ok. While I was adulting, I decided it was time to clean out some junk. Literally. It was high time I shared a video about all the products I've used up, so I can finally toss out the packaging.

So without further ado. Check out my video below to see all the products I've used up and whether I thought they're good enough to repurchase.

Cinema Secrets Brush Cleaner Quick Dry Formula | Sephora Microsmooth Foundation | It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Powder | L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion foundation | It Cosmetics CC Veil Fluid Foundation | Sephora Perfection Mist Airbrush Foundation | L'Oreal Telescopic Carbon Black mascara | Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara | Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye mascara | Starlooks Luxe Longwear Eyeliner Pen | Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner | Lorac Front of the Line Pro liquid eyeliner pen | Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Eyeliner Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz | NYX Micro Brow | Maybelline Define-a-Brow | Maybelline Age Rewind concealer | Make Up For Ever HD Concealer | First Aid Beauty Eye Duty Triple Remedy | Skindinavia Primer Mist | Model in a Bottle Sensitive Skin Setting Spray

Top 5 Beauty Favorites | October 2015

I cannot believe that we're already nearly half way through November. When did this happen? Weren't we just all talking about Halloween? Aren't we all still eating leftover candy? November just crept up on me! Next year, someone slip some Tic-Tacs into November's pockets, so I can hear that sneaky little month coming.

Regardless, November is here. Thanksgiving is nearly upon us. And I have some favorite beauty products to share with you.

Remember when I was worried that I wouldn't have enough products to share every month? Well, that was clearly nonsense. No my friends, the problem I'm having is narrowing it down to just five products every month!

So it seems that favorites videos might be here to stay! Hooray!

Now let's dive right in to the five products I couldn't get enough of throughout October.

P.S. -- What do you think of the new background? Comment below and tell me how you feel about it.

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Poured (Rose Gold) | L'Oreal True Match Lumi liquid illuminator (N201 Rose) | NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick (Soft Spoken) | Bdellium Tools Auto Lip Crayon (Helen of Troy) Get 10% off with coupon code: GIRLYTHINGS

Swatches | NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks | *New*

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick Swatches, @girlythingsby_e

Now that the eagerly anticipated NYX Liquid Suede Cream lipsticks are out on the market, I had to run off an get them.

Special thanks to my friend Jen, who alerted me to their release so I could sit on the edge of my seat until they were available.

These babies sold out fast on the NYX site, but luckily, they're also available at ULTA. My local ULTA hasn't gotten them in stock yet, so I ordered mine online. The best part about getting them from ULTA is that they're eligible for coupons (I used a 20% off full purchase coupon) and you can earn rewards points that later turn into cash back (stack additional savings with ebates too).

These retail for $6.99 and come in 12 different shades. At that price point (and with my extra savings), I had to get them all -- for research purposes, of course.

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipsticks, swatches, @girlythingsby_e

The 12 shades from left to right are: Stone Fox, Life's a Beach, Cherry Skies, Soft Spoken, Orange County, Sway, Sandstorm, Pink Lust, Tea & Cookies, Amethyst, Kitten Heels and Vintage.

These are all highly pigmented, apply smoothly, and dry down matte. Check out my video to see all the swatches on my lips to get an idea of how they look. Then order your favorite shades. You're definitely going to want these.

Review + Demo: NYX Wonder Stick

If you watched my ULTA haul with Eugenia, then you already know that NYX released a new product called the Wonder Stick. I've been quite the fan of their Wonder Pencil (as you can see from this review & demo) so I had to try this contouring and highlighting stick. It was physically impossible for me to leave the store without it. I know this because I tried.

And just as a little aside, can anyone tell me why I still bother with that old song and dance anymore? I mean, who am I kidding with this self restraint garbage?

Anyway. I bought it. Obviously.

So you're probably wondering what this Wonder Stick situation is already. It's an all-in-one highlighting and contouring makeup device. To put it plainly: It's a double ended stick. One side has a highlighting shade the other a contouring shade.

Pretty simple.

They look a lot like the tube concealers from back in the day that my mom used to buy from the drugstore. I'm sure those still exist out there. But I hardly ever see anyone using them anymore.

The NYX Wonder Stick ($11.99 for .28oz combined product) comes in four shades: Light, Medium, Deep, and Universal. After swatching the testers at ULTA, I noticed that the shades seemed to run a little on the light side, so I played it safe and picked up the Universal shade (pictured below)

NYX Wonder Stick (Universal)
If you're familiar with highlighting and contouring, you know that using concealer or different shades of foundation usually deliver the most natural results. But sometimes, trying to figure out which shade of foundation or concealer to pick for your highlight and contour can be tricky. Yes, the general guidance is one to two shades lighter/darker than your complexion. But sometimes choosing those shades is easier said than done.

With the Wonder Stick, NYX takes some of that guess work out of the equation and then they package it conveniently in a portable little tube. And to make your life even easier (at least if you're new to this highlight/contour game), they even provide you with step-by-step directions (and a photo tutorial).

Basically, the only thing you really need to learn how to do is blend your makeup.

At this point, you're probably wondering how I fared with using the Wonder Stick. Here's what you need to know:

  • As mentioned earlier, I think the shade line runs a little light
  • The Universal shade (WS04) worked well on me, but I did need to build up the color a bit (You can see I use more than one swipe of the shades to build up to the color pay off I want in my demo)
  • The shades are creamy enough that they glide on easily, but just dry enough that you don't feel sticky when you use them
  • They blend easily
  • You can build them up or sheer them out
  • They're very easy to use
  • I got a pretty natural looking result when using it, which I like -- especially for more day-to-day looks
  • I find the highlight shade is a bit dryer than the contour shade (but not totally dry) so make sure you moisturize well so that it doesn't look too dry under the eyes. Note: Due to the drier texture, I caution you to build it up slowly and use powder sparingly so as to avoid a cakey look. I was able to successfully use it without the dreaded dry cake eye.
  • While the highlighter did work well, the drier texture kept me from absolutely loving it
  • The contouring shade is creamier and I liked how easy it was to apply to the right places and blend. I really liked the finished look as well once blended.
  • The Universal shade is probably good for light to medium (maybe even tan) skin tones, but I think it will be way too light for darker skin tones
Check out my video review and demo to see how I use the product.

Overall thoughts:

All in all, I think NYX did a good job with the Wonder Stick. It's not exactly an earth-shattering development. You could get the same exact results by just buying two concealers like, say the L'Oreal True Match Crayons -- or even foundations. But since NYX already conveniently packaged it for you they took a lot of the guesswork out of choosing the right shades.

The Wonder Stick is a pretty good way to learn how to highlight and contour if you're just getting started with this makeup technique. And the fact that it's buildable and easy to blend is a major plus. I wish they had at least one or two more shades in the line so that it would work on a broader range of skin tones.

As for the price, at $11.99, it's not exactly super cheap. However, to give you a frame of reference, Lancome released a similar product (the Le Duo stick) and it retails for $32. So, NYX's version saves you more than half the price. It's really all relative.

Overall, I'm feeling a little divided. I liked how the Wonder Stick worked. I really liked the contour shade and how much more precise I could be with application (like drawing with a crayon). While the highlight shade worked well and gave me good overall results, the slightly drier consistency left me longing for my liquid highlighter pens (e.g., Maybelline Dream Lumi, Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Concealer).

I would recommend it as a product to try for anyone whose trying to learn how to contour and highlight and those looking for a convenient all in one product. If I had to give it a grade, I'd give it a B. The slightly drier consistency of the highlight shade and the color range dropped it down a peg, but didn't make it a deal breaker. It's worth trying out.

What do you think of the Wonder Stick? Will you be trying it?

drugstore beauty | it list vol. 4

drugstore beauty | it list vol. 4

L'Oreal Visible Life CC Eye Concealer

It's official. I found an eye brightening concealer I like as much (maybe more?) than my Maybelline Dream Lumi. Holy cow. I'm shocked. This concealer comes packaged as a roller ball, which makes application super simple and has that nice cooling effect when you apply. It's a much thinner consistency than Dream Lumi, but you can definitely build it up. If you're looking to conceal super dark circles, you may still need a correcting concealer (something a tad more opaque), but if you're looking for brightening effects, don't pass this one by.

c. Booth Tahitian Monoi Dry Oil Spray

You guys, this is quite possibly the best smelling oil I've ever come across. They need to make a whole line of this scent. It's freakin' amazing. I want to pump it through the air vents in my home and car so I can smell it all day every day. It's that good. And once I actually stop to pay attention to how well this product works, I'm pleased to report it's good as well. Spray this on any time of the day. Rub it in. It absorbs pretty quickly, doesn't leave oily residue behind, makes your skin feel soft and moisturized, and smells divine. Get a few of them. Keep them everywhere. I'm obsessed.

Milani Nail Lacquer

Another drugstore nail polish line that offers great color selection and fantastic formulation at a budget-friendly price. My current favorite is Power Periwinkle. Check out my swatch and review here

John Frieda Frizz Ease 3 Day Straight Flat Iron Spray

I received a sample bottle of this spray recently in an Influenster Voxbox and was pretty excited to try it out. I love getting keratin treatments to help battle Florida humidity and make styling my naturally curly (read: frizzy) hair into straight styles that won't fall to pieces the second I step outside. But keratin treatments cost a pretty penny. 3 Day Straight was super easy to use, incredibly light weight, and delivered super smooth tresses that laughed at humidity for 72 hours. The catch: You have to spray a good amount into damp hair (I did 15 spritzes), then blow dry, and then finish off with a flat iron to seal it all in. It's a bit time consuming, but the results are worthwhile. All you'll need to do are quick touch ups to fix any kinks you get from sleeping.

Yes to Carrots Facial Cleansing Towelettes

If you have sensitive skin and need makeup removing wipes that are both effective and fragrance free, give these Yes to Carrots cleansing towelettes a go. They effectively remove dirt and makeup without stinging. Plus, they're properly moistened (I know, I know, that word) so they can wipe everything away. No one likes a dry wipe. Ouch! Keep an eye out for instant coupons on the packaging. I purchased mine for $5.99, but it had a $3 off instant coupon attached. Talk about a bargain.

NYX Infinite Shadow Pencils

The jumbo pencil craze is showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. NYX made quite a splash with it's infamous jumbo shadow pencils, but their downfall was all the creasing (primer to the rescue!). But now they've released the jumbo pencil's newer, better, sibling -- the infinite shadow sticks. They come in nine neutral shades that you can slap on, blend, and go. And these babies don't budge! My personal favorite: Almond a pearly taupe.

Drugstore Beauty | It List vol. 3

We're well into February now and it seems to me it's high time for a new edition of the Drugstore Beauty It List. If you're new to this series, I basically choose six drugstore beauty items that I've been loving and tell you about the. I try to post a new It List every month.

I try out a lot of new items all the time, and I don't always have time to review all of them. The It List is a great way for me to share some of my favorites with you, while giving you an abbreviated review. Whenever a full review is available for a product listed, I'll link to it.

Now let's take a gander at this month's favorites.

Drugstore Beauty - It List, Garnier Clean+ Purifying Foam Cleanser, Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover, Nivea A Kiss of Care and Color, L'Oreal Elnett hairspray, Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder, NYX Wonder Pencil, @girlythingsby_e

Garnier Clean+ Purifying Foam Cleanser

If you have combination skin, it's time to rejoice. Garnier released a new line of skin cleansers and two of them are geared specifically for those of us with combination skin. The Purifying Foam Cleanser is meant to strike the delicate balance between deep cleaning oil annihilation and gentle moisturizing cleansing. Finally, we can have it all. Oil control without dehydrating your non-oily areas. I immediately noticed that my skin felt more balanced and produced less oil throughout the day. After a week, my skin was also noticeably softer. Read my full review for more details.

Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover

This product is a god send. I think everyone needs a bottle of this in their home. Not only does it help you treat stubborn cuticles and improve your manicure game, it also helps dissolve stubborn calluses too. This little $5 bottle also lasts a long time. I've been using it for several years now, and I think I've only on my fourth bottle. I use it at least once a week too. So here's the deal, you apply the serum/gel along your cuticle. Wait about 30 seconds. Then push your cuticles back. The product dissolves the cuticle, which means a lot less trimming (I still go in and trim here and there, but it's quite minimal. And yes, I know, you're not supposed to. But I do). Read my review here

Nivea A Kiss of Care and Color (new item)

I'm a big fan of Nivea lip balms. They're always so buttery smooth and superbly moisturizing. They recently released a new line called A Kiss of Care and Color and it's been popular. I went to three stores before I got my hands on these. The were sold out everywhere. I purchased two of the four available and I love it. They give you the moisture you're used to from Nivea with a pretty sheer hint of color. The color is just enough to be noticeable and you can build it up (though it'll still be sheer).

Even better: The shade Sheer Berry is practically an exact color dupe for Clinique's Black Honey (which has a huge cult following). If I had to find a difference, Nivea's is just the slightest bit more red. But wearing them side by side, the difference is imperceptible. So go ahead and save about $10 and pat yourself on the back.

L'Oreal Elnett Hairspray

This has been the only hairspray I've purchased since discovering it about 4 years ago (maybe longer?). I'm not a huge fan of crunchy, stiff hairspray hold and this was the first hairspray I came across that gave me hold while still being flexible. Best of all, it brushes right out, which is absolutely perfect for me since I don't like to wash my hair every day. I know some people don't like the strong perfume-like fragrance on this one. Fear not, they make an unscented version too.

NYX Wonder Pencil

This aptly-named little gem is a versatile little miracle. You can use it for so many different things. You can spot conceal (note: these run light so if you plan to conceal a blemish, try a shade darker than what you use, otherwise you'll highlight it), use it to highlight under your brow, inner corner, and even hide fine lines. Give your eyes a little lift. Line your lower water line when you didn't get enough sleep. You'll pay less than $4.50 and find yourself reaching for this little pencil more often than you'd expect. Check out my full review and video demonstration for how I like to use it.

Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder

This new powder contains 60% less talc, which means you can apply it over your makeup without over mattifying your skin. It feels light and silky smooth without the telltale chalky effect that tends to cling to imperfections. Available in 16 shades, you're likely to find one that works for you. A word to the wise: These run a little dark and they do deposit color. Choose one shade lighter than the color you normally get.

There you have it. Did any of your favorite products make it to the It List this month? Any favorites you'd recommend I check out? You might just see it mentioned in future postings. Comment below, let's discuss.

Haul: ULTA Friends & Family Sale + Coupon Link & More

Oops! I went shopping...

I have a weakness. I can't resist a good sale, especially of the beauty or shoe variety. This probably isn't news to anyone, but I'm putting it out there.

Speaking of sales, ULTA is having their Friends & Family sale. It started January 12 and ends January 18. Oh, you didn't know? Don't worry, they've managed to keep it on the low. I'm used to getting emails and mailers from them and this time, nothing. Goose eggs. Nada. I found out about the sale on Instagram when someone posted about it (not ULTA).

Here's how you can get the discount: Go to this site ulta.com/friends. Fill out your name, email address, and zip code. Wait for them to email you the coupon. (Don't worry, it takes less than 5 minutes. I did mine in the parking lot in front of ULTA)

Then, be a good friend and tell everyone. Just share the link because you can't forward the coupon (it's a one-time use only)

The coupon gets you 20% off your entire purchase, can be used in store or online, and includes prestige cosmetics. However, it excludes Urban Decay's Naked 1, 2 and 3 palettes. I think that's the only exclusion, except the Benefit Brow Bar. Exclusions are listed on the coupon, in case you forget.

You're welcome.

Now that you know about this sale, you know I went shopping. Here's a video where I share everything I got.

Review & Demo: NYX Wonder Pencil

NYX wonder pencil, review, swatch, demonstration, @girlythingsby_e

On a recent trip to ULTA, I walked by a NYX end cap display that was showcasing the brand's Wonder Pencil. I was in the market for a nude eyeliner, and the Wonder Pencil promised to be much more than that, so without needing much convincing, I snatched one up.

It comes in three colors (light, medium, deep) of which I purchased light and costs a whopping $4.49.

Little did I know this little pencil would rock my world.

I've used it so much, I've been sharpening it into oblivion. I can already tell I'll need to buy this in sets of two.

NYX's Wonder Pencil is a nude multi-purpose pencil. It has the consistency of a NYX pencil lip liner, which is to say it's not as creamy as their jumbo pencils, but also not overly dry. The product transfers onto your skin easily and blends well. I find it best to use my fingers when blending.

Here are all the things I use it for:
  • Highlight brown bone
  • Brighten inner corner of eye
  • Line water line to to look more awake
  • Highlight cupid's bow
  • Line and prime lips - the nude color won't interfere with whatever lipstick you choose (heck it will actually help make it more true to color, like concealing your lips) and it gives your lip product a little something extra to adhere to.
  • Clean up around lips (much like you would with concealer) after applying a bold color (like red)
  • To give my eyes a lift by giving myself a reverse wing and then blending (demonstrated in video)
Because the color I purchased is a bit lighter than my skin tone, I use it mostly for highlighting (as you can see). If it were closer to my skin tone, I could also use it to spot conceal. The dryer (but not totally dry) consistency would make it perfect for concealing blemishes because it's not likely to slide off. The pencil's size also gives you great control and precision over where you want to apply product, another great thing when you're trying to conceal a small blemish (but also great all around because lip lining and other uses can require some precision).

Let's break down this review into pros and cons:

Pros:
  • Cheap and easy to find
  • Nice consistency
  • Great for precision
  • Its nude and matte, which creates a more natural highlight (and won't emphasize lines or make you look oily). It also looks more natural than white liner in the water line.
  • Multi-purpose (make sure you disinfect it when using on both eyes and lips)
Cons:
  • I wish there was more product because I'm going through it really fast (a guess that's a bit of a by product of having so many uses). I may need to buy more than one at a time.
  • I wish it came in more than three shades. Light it too light for spot concealing (unless I want to put a spotlight on a blemish -- negative) and medium was a bit too dark.
  • It doesn't cover redness completely and if you have dark circles you want to treat, you'll still need concealer (but use this over the concealer for a little added brightness if you wish). I don't think it's meant to totally replace your concealer anyway, but just keep this in mind.

Overall, I'm really happy with this purchase and I can see myself repurchasing this product repeatedly in the future.

I'm still getting back in the swing of things after a short little Mexican cruise. But I did remember to take pics of my makeup on two of the four nights, and I wanted to share.

NYX Haul

By now you probably know that I entered a NYX contest to create a 5 minute look using their products. If you didn't see my tweets and Facebook updates, then you probably don't know that I won. Well, I won!!! The prize: a $75 gift card to spend on the NYX cosmetics website. Being the good little beauty junkie that I am, I spent it. Immediately. I was not only excited to get new products, but also, there were some things that I'd been wanting to get, but couldn't justify spending more money on makeup (I had to do some serious cleaning out and rearranging of the makeup storage to fit these things in. True story) or I had similar things (like the Naked Palette) or the specific item colors were simply not available at ULTA and I didn't want to pay shipping (ahem, single eyeshadows). Thanks to winning the contest, I could overlook all the excuses that were stopping me. I'd make room. I could get that palette that's supposed to rival the Naked palette and review it. It didn't matter that I needed more blush like I needed a hole in my head. I could get that palette they don't carry at ULTA and the eyeshadow colors I'd been looking for. And, I could test out their lip glosses (another thing I need about as much an extra belly button).

I wanted to give you all a sneak peek at all my goodies. I have not swatched them or used them yet. But don't worry, you know that I will. What I wanted to do was give you all an opportunity to voice your opinion on what you want to see the most. That way, I can swatch, test, and review according to what you want to see. So, in the spirit of getting your feedback, here are photos of all the goodies I received.
