Sale: Philosophy 20% off + Free Shipping

Here's another sale announcement for you today! Philosophy is offering 20% off your entire purchase and free ground shipping on all orders through 11/22/13 at 11:59 p.m. EST. All you need to do is visit philosophy.com, add items to your cart, and enter promo code holidayship and select ground shipping. Voila! You're all set.

Exclusions apply: Valid for US domestic shipping orders and does not apply when shipping to a commercial address. Certain products cannot be shipped to P.O. boxes. Offer excludes Time in a Bottle.

I personally recommend their Purity Made Simple cleanser and Purity Made Simple cleansing oil. What are some of your favorite Philosphy products? Anything you plan to pick up with the discount?

Sale: Shu Uemura VIP Sale

If you're an avid beauty community member (either you love reading all things beauty or you also happen to write and vlog about it), then you are well aware of the huge cult following for certain Shu Uemura products. The Japanese brand is well known for making fantastic products. I've read so much about how wonderful their cleansing oils are and everyone and their mother seems to swear by their eyelash curlers.

The only problem is that they aren't exactly easy to find (unless you order online). Sephora used to carry the iconic eyelash curlers, but they stopped right when I'd decided to go ahead and splurge a little.

If you're like me, and have been curious to try some of their cult favorites (and maybe some of their less talked about items), now is the time to pull the trigger. Shu Uemura is having its VIP sale through 11/20/13 at 11:59 EST. During this sale you get 25% off your entire purchase. Just enter any of the following codes: SHUVIP, EBATES, or TEMPTALIA (special thanks to Temptalia for sharing, read her post late last night and woke up to place my order) at check out. Plus, if you spend $50 (after the discount) you get free shipping (an additional $4.95 savings) with the same code.

Extra savings opportunity:

For added savings, don't forget to access the sale through ebates, where you'll earn an extra 5% cash back. Hey, savings add up people!

Some shopping tips/heads up

If you are looking to purchase any of the cleansing oils, the site defaults to the largest bottle available (usually 450 mL). Many of them are also available in 150 ml and at a lower price. However, there are some that are only available in the larger size (e.g., the limited edition one).

The check out section also defaults to "no deluxe sample" and honestly, who doesn't want a nice freebie? Especially a larger sample. So don't forget to change that and get yourself an extra goodie.

I picked up an anti-oxidant cleansing oil (anti-dullness), eyelash curlers, and lash builder. Will you be shopping the sale? Comment below and tell me what you got.

Happy shopping (and saving)!

Happy Hump Day! The holiday season is upon us. Normally all the sale emails don't start to come is as heavily as they have this year, but we have a shorter shopping season this year and retailers have started their push early. Plus, Hanukkah falling on Thanksgiving this year (technically it starts at sundown Wednesday night), there's a large contingency of holiday shoppers who need to get their shop on right now.

In the spirit of my traditional Bath & Body Works 3-wick candle gifting (I stock up whenever possible then give them as gifts throughout the year -- except the seasonal ones, those get gifted in the right season), I bring you a coupon that will make shopping even nicer.

Their 3-wick candles went on sale this weekend at 2 for $22 (that's 45% off) and today I got an email with a $10 off any $30 purchase coupon inside (Expires 11/24/2013).

Bath & Body Works $10 coupon, expires 11/24/13, @girlythingsby_e

Happy shopping and saving!

How to save money on (and get the most out of) high-end mascara

I've yet to meet anyone (except makeup artists) who can go through an entire tube of mascara inside of its ridiculously short life span. In case you missed that memo, let me educate you. You're supposed to toss out your mascara three months after you open it. Why? Because your eyes are a sensitive area, and opening and closing your precious mascara tube will introduce bacteria. Oh, and by the way, bacteria thrives and multiplies in dark, damp places. Essentially, a tube of mascara is a great bacterial breeding ground. Awesome right? That's also why you're not supposed to share that mess. You'll spread disease faster than most outbreak-type movie plots. Just don't do it.

This little three-month mandate has kept me far far away from pretty much any high-end mascara purchase (unless it was a gift). After all, I regularly toss out half full tubes of my go-to  L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black without remorse because (1) I love my eye sight and don't want pink eye (or whatever) and (2) that stuff is cheap, fabulous, and readily accessible. So if I have to replace it often, I'm glad it's not setting me back.

But the thought of spending more than $20 on a mascara that I'll never finish is enough to make me sweat -- no matter how luscious it promises to make my lashes. I just can't purposely toss that much money down the drain on the reg. I suspect there are a lot of you out there who feel the same way.

Well, let me share a little secret with you that will leaving you wondering how you didn't think of it sooner. Ready? Purchase travel-sized high-end mascaras. That's it. Easy.

Yep, that was pretty much my reaction when I was told too. Seriously, how did something so simple escape me for so long?! Travel-sized mascara tubes have enough product to get you through the three month life span without wasting precious product. You'll either use it all up in that time or you'll be pretty darn close.

Now shimmy on over to the nearest makeup counter and pick up that mascara you've always wanted to try. If you need any suggestions, check out Benefit's They're Real - I love that stuff (and yes, I have the travel size).

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Picks

I love Nordstrom anniversary sale time. There are always some pretty awesome deals. This year is no different. As a Nordstrom card holder, I got early access to the sale, which gave me a little time to compile a list of some of my favorite items I think you might just want to check out.

Beauty

1. Clarisonic Mia package ($149) - I'm of the opinion that everyone needs one of these in their life. The gentle sonic cleansing will really help improve your skin. Not only will it help you get a better clean, and hence reduce pesky blemishes, it'll also enhance your skin's texture and overall look. And with this deal you get an extra replacement brush, a carrying case, travel bag, and two travel-size cleansers -- all for the price of getting the Mia. By the way, the replacement brush head itself runs $25 each. Plus, you can choose from a variety of fun colors. My favorite its Jade.

2. Clarisonic sensitive skin replacement brush pack ($75) - If, like me, you already have a Clarisonic, you should definitely consider picking up this replacement brush pack (it also comes in the deep pore cleansing version). It's basically buy 3, get one free. Plus, you get a cute carrying case. That's a whole year worth of replacement brushes!

3. Purity Made Simple duo ($50) - This was on my list of picks last year and it's such a great deal, it made it on to my list this year. I love this face wash. It's gentle, it tones, it makes my skin feel really soft (even before I got a Clarisonic), and it doesn't over dry. I've yet to find a suitable drugstore alternative for this. It appears no one's been able to duplicate it's awesomeness. With this duo, you'll have enough Purity face wash to last you all year long. You get a 32 oz bottle (with a pump) and a free full-sized 8 oz bottle (a $20 value).

4. MAC Illustrated face kit ($49.50) - Not sure my pick list would be complete without a MAC item. What can I say? I love their kits. I'm especially fond of this year's adorable packaging, designed by Rebecca Moses. I'm really digging the brown kit, which offers a really nice neutral color selection that includes four shadows, a blush, and two lip glosses. Kudos to MAC for also including a little plastic cover to protect the glosses from getting covered in powder. The kit also comes in plum

5. Lanvin Me perfume set ($98) - OK, I bought this set on the first day of the pre-sale, so how could I not include it in my picks? Hear me out. I know $98 isn't cheap. But with this set you get the 2.6 fl. oz. bottle (reg. price $98), plus a 1 fl. oz. bottle (reg. price $55) for free, and I received a small 0.25 fl. oz. travel-size vial (think the size of a roller ball, but this one is an atomizer). I'd been holding out on purchasing this perfume because I had sticker shock. But when I saw this deal, I couldn't wait any longer. P.S. If this isn't your scent of choice, they have a similar deal with Jimmy Choo Flash as well as some other great perfume deals.

Don't forget to check out Nordstrom's Beauty Bash at a Nordstrom near you. Click here for details.

Shoes

Halogen Leesa Flat (sale price $59.90)

Nike Free 5.0 V4 Running Shoe in leopard (sale price $66.90)
I love a good animal print, especially leopard. And, while I think leopard is year-round print, I can't help but notice I gravitate toward it more in the fall and winter. And really, do either of these shoes need much justification? They are totally adorable. A word to the wise, the leopard running shoes run small, so size up.

Apparel

Zella live-in capris (sale price $28.90)
A good, affordable pair of workout leggings can be hard to find. You want (or at least I do) a wider waist band to give a flattering and slimming look (and reduce muffin top). But most importantly, you want it to keep your private parts covered. And by that I mean, you don't want it to go see through once you start moving around. Yep. I said it. And I think many women out there don't know this happens. I see them at the gym often, doing squats or any other variety of exercise that requires bending down or cause the legging material to stretch and expose their lady parts. So, I'm putting everyone on alert. When you buy workout leggings, do the squat and bend test in front of the mirror. Yes, it looks awkward, but at least you'll avoid some unintentional exposure. Let me tell you, some of those cheaper pairs go so sheer you may as well be doing squats without pants on. I'm not exaggerating. Picture that for a moment.

These Zella live-in capris pass all those tests. And, while they're on sale, the price point is much easier to swallow. I have a hard time paying a lot of money for a pair of pants I'll be purposefully sweating (like crazy) in. In my mind, it's like spending a fortune on clothes only to go paint a house. And while I feel these are worth the price, I'd prefer to grab a few pairs at a discount.

BB Dakota faux leather bodice dress in blush and leopard ($64.90)
I love how this dress combines the toughness of leather with the daintiness of the chiffon-like skirt. I think this dress would be great for fun night's out, dates, cocktail parties, and maybe even a fall wedding (depending on the dress code of course). And the price point is pretty great too. I can't decide which I like better, so I included them both.

Rubbish faux shearling lined slouchy jacket ($64.90)
I love a good slouchy casual jacket and I'm really digging the camo print on this one. Plus, the lining is removable, so I can actually get some wear out of it in Florida since our winters are a bit balmy and our fall doesn't really exist.

What do you think of these picks? Did you shop the pre-sale or do you plan to shop the anniversary sale? What are some of the items you're planning to get?

Cyber Monday Deals

The Black Friday frenzy came and went. Now it's time to shop in a more relaxed manner (unless, like me, you decided to skip the crowds and do your Black Friday shopping online too). Sip your coffee and avoid line with some of these great Cyber Monday deals. And don't forget to earn extra money back by shopping these sales through ebates links, there is a lot of double cash back going on that will sweeten the deal.

Get 25 percent off your entire online sale at Bath & Body Works with code CYBER2012. Stock up on some great gifts. It's typically a no-fail gift for many gals on your list. I mean, who doesn't like to smell good? Today only, holiday traditions (e.g., Twisted Peppermint, Vanilla Bean Noel, Pink Sugarplum, and Wintercandy Apple) body care items and antibacterial foaming hand soaps are buy one get one free. Check them out here. Other sales going on: buy three, get two free on all other signature scent items; four for $15 or six for $20 antibacterial hand soaps; and four for $20 or six for $24 wallflowers and plug ins.

Buy it today, have it tomorrow. Use code CYBER at check out. If you haven't heard, MAC palettes now are a lot more like Z palettes. That means, you can put anything in the palette and the clear top lets you see what you have. Even better, the MAC palettes are actually cheaper ($18 ) than the Z palettes ($25) and sturdier since they are a harder plastic rather than cardboard. P.S. The prices I just listed are for the large palettes. MAC also makes a small palette that will fit two eyeshadows and a medium one that will fit four.

ULTA has entirely too many sales to list. Lots of discounts and coupon codes. Check them out here. Get free shipping on $25 purchases with coupon code HOLIDAY2012.

If you've seen any of my videos about my favorite inexpensive makeup brushes, then you know I'm a big fan of Coastal Scents. Check out my videos here and here. I'm stocking up on more of my favorite brushes from them, my MAC 217 dupe, the Pro Blending Fluff, that I've written about here and here (some of my most popular posts, incidentally). They are normally only $4.95, but now I can get quite a few for only $2.50! Heck yeah! I think they'll make excellent stocking stuffers for my gal pals too. Also, the bionic flat top buffer brush I loved so much in my videos is back in stock by popular demand. Great brush at a fraction of the price of other brands. Enjoy 50 percent off site wide through 11/28/12 . Site wide includes makeup too ladies. I really love my 10 blush palette.

Sephora is also offering free shipping on $25 purchases through 11/28/12 with code SHIPNOW. Although, I don't see any special Cyber Monday deals going on.

Enjoy 50 percent off everything on J. Crew Factory site today only and free shipping with no minimum purchase with code YOURGIFT.

Plus, if you are a J. Crew card holder, you can get 30 percent off your entire purchase at J. Crew and free shipping using code CARDSTYLE.

And while you're shopping for clothes, save 30 percent on your entire purchase at Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic and 25 percent off at Athleta and Piperlime with code CYBER.

Hopefully all this shopping will make the first day back at work after a long weekend a little more pleasant. Your boss won't mind. You're stimulating the economy.

Happy shopping! Tell me what you bought!

Weekend Shopping Savings: Gap, Bath & Body Works, J. Crew, Stila

It's Friday! Say that with a sing-song intonation. Raise your voice. Say it proud. Do a little dance in your seat my dears because the weekend is here! You've made it through another work week. Undoubtedly, you accomplished some goals and crossed some to-dos off your list. Now it's time to kick back and relax.

If you're anything like me, and if you're reading this blog regularly, we might just share some interests, shopping relaxes you. But shopping while racking in some savings is elating. Here are some fun coupons and savings to help you with that endeavor.

Gap is offering 30 percent off your entire purchase this Veteran's Day weekend in what they are calling the Gap Friends Event. Seems like it's a good time to be friends with Gap, especially since temperatures have dropped these past few days, especially if you live on the east coast. Seems like a good time to buy some warm attire. If you're in the market (which I always am), Gap recently sent out an email blast announcing it's cashmere sweater line is now available online. Prices were pretty fair, considering it's cashmere and it simply doesn't run cheap. With this offer, those prices will be more than reasonable. Might want to snag some up if you happen to love this luxuriously soft fabric. And really, who doesn't? (Unless you're allergic like my poor friend Kristen)

The offer is good in-store and online through 11/12/12. Use code GAPFRIENDS at checkout or present this coupon at the register.

Get $10 off any $30 purchase at Bath & Body Works through 11/18/12. Currently, the retailer is offering is Buy 3, Get 3 free sale on all their signature collection items. Stock up on gifts or stock up your personal stash - it's up to you. This combo can add up to quite a bit of savings and if you're a body product aficionado this is quite the deal.

The offer is only good in stores, so print up the coupon here and let the savings begin.

  • You can still get 20 percent off your entire purchase at Stila (online only) through 11/11/12. Use code: EMPLOYEELOVE
  • J. Crew is offering 25 percent off and free shipping on any purchase of $150 or more through 11/12/12 with code OURTREAT.

Have a great weekend and enjoy your shopping!

Save 20% on Stila Cosmetics

Stila is extending 20 percent off and free shipping to everyone as part of employee appreciation week now through November 11. Free shipping is good through 12/31/2012.

The brand just released its skincare line yesterday, so if you've been curious about it, now is a good time to pick some up for a reduced price. And of course, it's a great time to stock up on holiday gifts for the makeup mavens on your list. Not to mention, sneak a few goodies in for yourself.

Use code EMPLOYEELOVE and start saving today.

Happy shopping! Don't forget to stop by and tell me what you bought!

My Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale Wish List

I think the title of this post is self explanatory. It's half yearly sale time at Nordstrom and I have an itch to shop. Here are some of my favorite times from perusing their site today.

  1. Tasha Polka Dot Scarf ($29.90) - Oversized and bright, I just love this to go with loose sweaters and bring a pop of color to darker fall and winter outfits.
  2. Ariella Collection Wish Scrips Pendant Necklace ($22.80) - Delicate and pretty, I love that it says wish, especially since this is my little wish list.
  3. Belle Noel Leather Pyramid Stud Earrings ($27.49) - Cool and tough without being over bearing. I can see myself wearing these all the time.
  4. Only Mine Cashmere Sweater ($69.90) - One word: cashmere. There's not much you have to do to sell me on a classic cable sweater in this luxurious fabric, especially at this price!
  5. Stila Sparkle Luxe Lip Gloss in Dazzle ($10.98) - I love this pretty fuchsia/red gloss with tons of micro glitter. It screams holidays to me.
  6. Steve by Steve Madden Cross Body Bag ($46.80) - I love the eggplant color and simple design. Great for when you don't need to carry everything and the kitchen sink.
Are you going to the Nordstrom sale? What's on your wish list?

Bath & Body Works BOGO Sale

I don't know about the rest of you, but I know that I love it when Bath & Body Works (BBW) does their buy three, get three free sales. So much so, in fact, that I turn my nose up at every other BOGO sale they do. Buy three, get two? Scoff! I wait that sale out. In fact, I'm pretty sure I don't shop unless they have this sale or the 2 for $20 three-wick candle sale going on. I like my bargains.

So, I was pretty happy to see my email this morning and find that they finally gave up the buy three, get two free shenanigans and brought out the big guns. It's time to stock up.

Have fun shopping this weekend. What are your favorite scents?

Old Navy & Bath and Body Works Coupons

If you're looking for an excuse to shop, here's one: Save 20-30 percent at Old Navy now through Oct. 24. Present the coupon above (print it here) and save 20 percent on your entire purchase. Old Navy, Banana, and Gap card holders enjoy an extra 10 percent in savings, so make sure you bring your card with you if you're among that crowd. If you're an online shopper you can save too use codes STUFFSAVE for the 30 percent card holder discount and ONSAVE20 to get 20 percent off. Don't forget you can get even more savings if you do your online shopping via ebates!

I picked up a few cute items at Old Navy and Gap before my trip to Italy recently and I totally took advantage of similar savings they were offering at the time of my purchases. I love a good bargain! So, here's to spreading the savings.

While I'm sharing those savings, you have two more days to enjoy 20 percent off your entire purchase at Bath & Body Works. I stocked up on candles last weekend during their 2 for $20 sale. If you missed it, don't worry, this sale comes around pretty regularly and it's a steal. But, if you're in the market for some yummy-smelling body care items take advantage of the savings today. They make great gifts if you're starting your holiday shopping early.  Print the coupon above here. This is an in-store offer only - even though the coupon says "Redeem now shop online." Think perhaps the online offer expired already? But this is what the email banner I got today read:

Happy pre-weekend shopping!

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Starts Today: My Shopping Picks

Ok, so if you follow me on Twitter, you know, I'm obsessed with Nordstrom. It brings me the same (maybe more) kind of joy as Target. Except, I can't always just buy things. But, I do like to just walk around and look at things and get inspired.

Well, today is a happy day for a Nordstrom visit. Their Anniversary Sale just kicked off (ends 8/6/12), and that means you can snag some of their upcoming fall merchandise on sale. That's right, new merchandise, not the stuff thats going out the door to make room for the new stuff. Not that I turn my nose up at a sale. But it is exciting to get your hands on some items you know will be in store for a while, and that you got for a lower intro price.

Here are some things I've got my eye on for this sale.

$39.50

I'd be remiss if I didn't start the wish list with a beauty item. And I'm excited about this particular item in the MAC Illustrated line. Three full-sized lip products (lip stick, dazzle glass, and liner) and a cute makeup bag to carry them in all for $39.50. What a deal! The Peach bag comes with a Creme Sheen Lipstick in Ravishing, Dazzleglass Creme in Sublime Shine, and Cremestick Liner in Creme Kiss. Individually the products run you $14.50 for a lipstick, $19.50 for a dazzleglass, and $14.50 for a Cremestick Liner. They also have different lip color sets: red, nude, and pink. All are great, but I'm lusting after peach the most.

They also have cute little makeup brush kits in this line, but I'm never all that thrilled with the brushes MAC puts out in these kits. The quality simply isn't the same. You can read and watch a lot of reviews out there that will say the same. Since the hubs is a Nordstrom card holder, I got to get a sneak peak at some of the items that would be on sale. I saw a brush set by Nordstrom that was in the $40 range and the brushes were soft and seemed to be of good quality. I'd get those over the MAC sets. I can't seem to find the link to the Nordstrom brushes online. Perhaps they are just an in-store thing.

The line also has two great smokey eye kits with three shadows, two brushes, small mascara and a technokohl liner for $49.50. They come in plum, and black. I'm not really looking for more shadow right now, but if I was, I'd be partial to the black one. Two of the shadows in that kit I already own and love (carbon and naked lunch).  Here's a pic to give you an idea.

MAC Illustrated Smokey Eye Black

Another item that caught my eye is the Philosophy Purity Made Simple set. For $49.50 you get a 32 oz bottle with a pump and a smaller 8 oz bottle. Basically, you get the 8 oz. bottle for free (a $20 value). My 16 oz bottle is running low, and I think this is a pretty good deal if you happen to like using this cleanser. I think I wouldn't have to buy another one for more than a year. I got my 16 oz. one more than 6 months ago.

Finally, I want to point out that if you have been curious about trying Revitalash (I have) or Phyto "Phytodefrisant"Large Botanical Hair Relaxing Balm, you can get them both at a reduced price until August 6. The Revitalash is currently $65 (reg. $98) and the Phyto Relaxing Balm is $26 (reg. $39).

I couldn't possibly cover every single awesome item in the beauty sale. There are a lot! So go check it out if I've peaked your curiosity. These are just some of the items that caught my eye.

Besides, I'd like to move on to other departments. I want to talk about shoes. One pair in particular. I mean come on, you had to see that coming. I'm a sucker for the Norstrom shoe department. Especially if there is a sale! Well I'm excited to report that I found yet another pair of boots similar to the Steve Madden Candence boots I was lusting over yesterday (and last year). These aren't slouchy, so I'm thinking perhaps they will be a more classic. They have an exposed zipper in the back and a tiny wedge. I'm kind of in love. Oh and they come in four lovely colors. I think cognac is the one for me.

This clutch caught my eye. It looks like it's a comfortable size and I love the tassels. And for the price it's not too shabby. Love that it comes in mustard yellow too.

I've also been wanting a leather jacket. At the sale price this one is not too bad. I'm really loving the burgundy color. And love the detailing on the shoulder. It's classic, but still has a bit of an edge.

Bath & Body Works Semi-annual Sale

Bath & Body Works is hosting it's semi-annual this week ladies! It starts today online, but you can swoop into stores tomorrow and get your hands on some goodies as well. Personally, I'll be shopping the candle sale. A little birdie told me they are discontinuing my favorite scent, and I'm broken hearted. But, since it's going on sale, I'll be buying up quite a few candles to get me buy until I find a new favorite candle. I'm also hoping to get my hands on some of Vanilla Apricot goodies. I just love that scent.

What BBW goodies are you hoping to snag in the sale?
