Review + Swatches: OFRA x MannyMua Liquid Lipsticks

Hello hello guys! I have something a little fun to share with you today. If you've been paying attention to the internet beauty buzz, then you know OFRA Cosmetics did their most recent liquid lipstick collab with MannyMua. That little collab spawned three new lipstick shades -- all of the neutral, everyday, wearable variety.

The lipsticks dropped April 22 and you guys went HAM! All the lippies sold out the same day. In response to demand, OFRA produced a second run of the shades and made them available again last week. And like clockwork, those sold out as well.

Can I blame you guys? Nope. Manny did an excellent job working on three colors that would appeal to the masses. You can wear these to the office, grocery store, and even on a fun night out. It only makes sense everyone was clamoring for them. I'm hopeful that like previous successful OFRA collabs, these will get restocked soon, and become available permanently. Don't forget, the Kathleen Light's shades all sold out multiple times and to this day you can still order Miami Fever and Havana Nights. So if you haven't grabbed any of Manny's shades, and you want them, don't give up hope yet.

Your girl was part of the internet hubub -- snagging all three shades (Aries, Charmed, and Hypno) on their first release date. And I'm here today to share them with you.

You can expect the same awesome formula we've come to love from OFRA's liquid lipsticks, which is to say: a velvety smooth (almost mousey) consistency that's highly pigmented, moisturizing and comfortable to wear. Check out my original reviews and mentions here and here for a more detailed review.

Manny's three shades retail for $19.90 each (same as the permanent line) or you can purchase all three in a bundle for $49.70. Plus, there are quite a few coupon codes out there that will nab you anywhere from 20-40% off.  A quick Google search will save you some cash, so don't forget to do that.

Aries is a soft peachy nude that's great for any occassion (I like to mix mine wth OFRA Mocha to make it a little deeper)
Charmed is a dusty brownish rose/mauve shade -- and my favorite of the three
Hypno is the vampiest of the bunch, a raspberry wine like shade -- great if you want to be a little bold, but not too crazy.

Check out my video below to see hand and lip swatches or just scroll down for photo swatches (your choice).

Unboxing: Ipsy Glam Bag August 2015

Alright guys, I'm keeping my promise from last month. I filmed my Ipsy unbagging for August on time! I'm so proud of myself. I actually filmed within days of it arriving in the mail.

Help me stick to it next month with a little bit of comment encouragement. Tell me what you think of the products I received. If you're an Ipsy member, tell me what you thought of the items you received this month. Heck, just leave a comment about anything related to this month's Ipsy glam bag.

If I know you like these types of posts, I'll keep them up!

OK, before we get into video watching -- a little info about Ipsy:
  • I pay for my Ipsy subscription out of pocket. That means this video is not sponsored and the items received were not press samples.
  • You too can join Ipsy and get your own little monthly beauty surprise. For $10 (+ tax)/month you get five (5) personalized beauty samples. They typically include at least one full-size product and the samples received are deluxe size (typically travel size actually). What does that mean? You get more than $10 worth of product and the samples are big enough to get several uses out of each product (so you know whether or not it works for you).

Enjoyed this video? Check out some of my previous Ipsy bags.

Review + Giveaway: OFRA Cosmetics Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick

Can I just tell you how awesome it is to be on vacation? I suddenly have all this extra time on my hands to tend to things I've been sorely neglecting. If only I could spend more of my time playing with makeup and beauty products and less time doing boring grown up things like working.

Being a grown up is by far the dumbest thing I've ever done.

I know, I know. I had work before and I was way better about posting and filming. You're right. It just meant I was neglecting other aspects of my life (like spending time with family and friends). After a while, it was becoming difficult to keep neglecting those area of my life without consequence, so I had to reprioritize -- and now I'm trying to reprioritize again.

It's a juggling game. I'll probably find myself shuffling things around again at some point. But for now, let's revel in my sudden return to the beauty realm.

Let's talk about lipstick already! That's what you came here for, right?

While I was at The Makeup Show (TMS) in Orlando (back in November), I stopped by the OFRA Cosmetics booth. Visiting the OFRA booth has become a bit of a tradition now. I discovered this brand at TMS back in 2012 and have been hooked ever since.

My first purchase from OFRA was a lipstick, a liquid lipstick, and two eyeshadows that were actually a gift with purchase. I was thoroughly impressed with every item I purchased and returned the next year ready to add more to my collection. Sadly, OFRA didn't bring their liquid lipsticks with them in 2013. But I was pleasantly surprised to see they had them at the show again this year. I immediately picked up two more colors: Santa Monica and Laguna Beach.

Rather than keep you in suspense, I think it's pretty obvious that I'm about to review a product that I love. Let's be real. I was disappointed they didn't have the product available at the show last year and I bought more of them this year. You don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to deduce that I stand firmly in the I-love-this-product category.

But what's a review without my telling you why I love them?

An unsubstantiated opinion -- that's what it is. And we don't give those around here. It would make my life a million times easier but it doesn't really give you any useable insight whether you'll like it too. You want to know why. No, you need to know why before you go spend your hard earned cash. So that's exactly what you're going to get.

Let's break it down.

Packaging, cost and availability

OFRA's Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick retail for $19.90 and are available for purchase on OFRA's website. The fact that these are only available online is one of my chief complaints because I can't get instant gratification. And dammit, I'm a child of the "right now" generation. Gimme. I like to be able to look at and swatch colors in person, and I don't necessarily feel their site offers much in the form of swatches. This is the primary reason I wait until I visit their booth at the show, so I can really take a good look at the colors I'm choosing. Mostly, because I don't want to have to bother with mail-in returns if I don't color match correctly. But, who knows? Maybe I'll inspire more bloggers to try this brand and then there will be swatches galore online.

And, while we're over here being honest, it's hard to beat show prices too. I paid $5 each for my liquid lipsticks (in 2012 and 2014). That being said, the product's performance and consistency merit the price. (Exposure to show pricing has ruined me you guys. I want everything at a discount now) But don't fret, you can save 30% on your entire purchase with this code: girlythingsbye (good through 2/1/2015)

The liquid lipsticks come packaged in a tube (pictured above) with a doe-foot applicator. OFRA did update the packaging since 2012. Originally the tube was round (now its square) and came with a brush applicator. I'm a fan of the new packaging. I feel that the doe-foot applicator improves application. It picks up less product (good since these give a lot of color pay off) and is generally less messy. Plus, I found the original brush applicator a bit stiff and didn't think it spread the product on my lips as nicely. The updated packaging is definitely an improvement in my book.

Performance and consistency

The liquid lipsticks have a buttery smooth consistency and smell like cake batter (think Cold Stone Creamery). For the purpose of comparison, they feel like NYX butter glosses when applied. That means, they glide on like butter so they can slide around a bit on your lips before they set, which for some may cause some feathering. I don't actually experience this problem, but a friend of mine brought it to my attention so, I'm sharing it with you. If you're like my friend, here's a useful tip: Use a lipliner, then apply the liquid lipstick. Lip liners are generally a drier consistency so they'll hold these in place until they set. Voila, no feathering.

They don't take too long to set (maybe a minute, if that long) and once they do, they stay put. The lipsticks dry down to a matte finish and feel like long-lasting lipstick (meaning they're not super sticky and can feel a bit dry) However, they did not  dry out my lips like some long-lasting lipsticks tend to do. They'll probably stay put all day -- as long as you don't eat or drink.

But since that's not totally realistic, I was able wear these for five hours without much (if any) wear and tear. Unfortunately, I need to eat, so five hours was the longest amount of time I wore these before eating led to reapplication.

You also get amazing color pay off with these. I have three colors and with all of them I get the exact color pay off I see in the tube with one swipe. You could try to build them to be more intense, but I found that to be totally unnecessary and a waste of product.

Overall thoughts

Well, if it isn't obvious, I really love these liquid lipsticks. I own three colors (Palm Beach, Laguna Beach, and Santa Monica) and have ordered two more since typing up this review (Hollywood and Plumas). Between the color pay off, lasting quality, and ease of use, I've become quite the fan. This year at the show, I got to meet the brand's chemist who makes all their makeup formulations and I gave him a big thumbs up on their liquid lipsticks.

By the way, you read that right. OFRA has their own in-house chemist so all their products are theirs. They don't buy mass produced products (ahem, 88 color eyeshadow palette that I'm guilty of owning) and slap their brand name on them. They create everything themselves. And their stuff is so impressive, they've even had large, well-known brands seeking out their stuff.

Check out my video review for additional information and to hear more about the giveaway!

Giveaway

While I was at the show, I met with the brand representatives and told then how much I loved their liquid lipsticks and how thrilled I was they brought them to the show again this year. The Makeup Show Orlando Haul

I promised you guys a video of all the goodies I brought home from The Makeup Show in Orlando. I haven't forgotten. It just took me this long to finally edit it. I'm so out of practice filming that I rambled incessantly throughout the whole damn thing. That means I made a video that was already going to be long, waaaaaay too long to endure. I actually toyed with not posting it at all because I kept getting tired of editing. You guys, I thought I was never going to be finished.  I'm a bit ashamed of all the stupid rambling I had to cut out of this thing.

On the plus side, I powered through and I got a little practice getting in front of the camera again. Hoping to get back in the saddle and film a few more videos to share. This time, I'll make sure to keep it shorter.

Enjoy!

OFRA Cosmetics Lipsticks & Swatches

OFRA lipstick, Fuchsia, 202, 201, girlythingsby_e
OFRA Cosmetics lipsticks (left to right): Fuchsia, #202 (blue based red), 201 (creamy pink)

I love OFRA Cosmetics lipsticks. I discovered them last year at the Makeup Show and picked up a few extra ones this year. Their moisturizing formula is enriched with antioxidants and Vitamin E and protects your lips with natural sunscreen. What you end up with is a creamy, pigmented lipstick that looks and feels absolutely phenomenal. Plus, it doesn't hurt that they're only $5 at the show (regularly $13).

Check out the three I purchased below.

Fuchsia

OFRA lipstick Fuchsia

One of the first colors I was drawn to was the pretty deep fuchsia that's perfect for fall. As you can see it's much darker, almost like a deep berry color, than traditional fuchsia lipsticks. In a strange departure from their regular numeric naming convention, this color is actually called Fuchsia. I wonder why they decided to skip the numbering system?

This color has a satin finish that feels smooth and creamy on your lips. I detected no distinct scent other than the regular smell of lipstick. A word to the wise: It stains your lips. Once you take it off, you'll still have a bit of color left behind (good thing I swatched this one last).

202

OFRA lipstick #202

Next, I picked out lipstick #202, a gorgeous power red that's bound to look great on most skin tones. Seeing as it made my teeth look whiter, I'd wager that 202 is a blue-based red. Like fuchsia, 202 is also a satin finish that feels moisturizing, glides on easily, and has no discernible scent. Just be sure to use a lip liner if you're like me and have trouble applying a red lip neatly. I skipped the liner for swatching purposes (so it wouldn't interfere with the color swatch), which explains why it's a tiny bit messy.

201

OFRA lipstick #201

The last color I picked out was #201, a perfect creamy pink with a slightly peachy-yellow undertone. I love an easy every day color and 201 fits the bill. Just like fuchsia and 202, this lipstick is a stain finish, feels great on, offers fantastic color pay off, and has no scent.

If you've never tried OFRA cosmetics you should definitely give them a try. They offer a fantastic range of quality products. What do you think of the three colors I chose?

Beauty Haul: The Makeup Show Part 2

In case you've been stuck under a rock these past few weeks: I went to The Makeup Show in Orlando recently. If you're a regular here, you already know this. While I was there, I did some makeup hauling damage. I shared my beauty haul from the blogger preview event recently, and promised there'd be more to come.

Well, I'm delivering on that promise with a lot of product pictures for your perusing pleasure. This post includes the items that I purchased while at the show. Don't forget to leave a comment and let me know which products you're most interested in seeing swatches and reviews on first.

I also purchased a Make Up For Ever palette exclusive to the Makeup Show designed by James Vincent and his fellow artist friends that had 10 eyeshadow and blush pans. There was a tiny mistake when I made the purchase, and I didn't receive all 10 shades (I got 9 shades, and a duplicate of one of the shades which equaled 10). I contacted Make Up For Ever and let them know what happened and they graciously offered to send me the missing shade. Since I didn't want to take a picture of the incomplete palette, I'm waiting on the item to arrive. Once that comes in, I'll take a photo and share the colors in the palette so that you can easily recreate it.

Other items purchased but not pictured (because they they're little beauty tools you can get from anywhere): MUFE duo pencil sharpener, MUFE mixing palette, MUFE powder puff, and an assortment of wispy false lashes.

And last, but not least. I was given a press kit for the Makeup Bullet. I'm very excited to review this item for you. It's a reusable makeup sponge that fits on your finger! Genius!

Well, there you have it -- that's my haul from The Makeup Show Orlando. If you went, what did you get? Anything in my haul you'd like to see reviewed and swatched first?

Beauty Haul: The Makeup Show Orlando Part 1

*This post includes press sample products*

So you guys know I recently attended The Makeup Show Orlando. I've posted pre-show announcements. I tweeted. I instagramed. I've even shared a few of the things I learned (don't worry there's more to come on that front). But I haven't shown you yet, and what I'm sure you're waiting to see is what I got while I was there.

Well, the wait it over. This post I'll show you some of the goodies I brought home from the show. But since I went a little crazy (I was at a makeup trade show on payday weekend, what did you expect?), I'm splitting this haul up into a few posts. Product reviews and swatches will follow in posts to come. For now, you get a a sneak peek of all the products I'll be testing and talking about.

Blogger Preview

As a blogger attending the show, the first thing I got to do was attend the blogger preview, where James Vincent, director of artistry for The Makeup Show, showed us some of his favorite items that would be available from the various vendors. He also gave us a goodie bag that included a few of those items in it for us to test out for ourselves.

Before I share those photos with you, I need so say this: James is a amazing. His personality is magnetic. His passion and enthusiasm for his work is infectious.  And his extensive knowledge is evident when he speaks. During the small amount of time I got to spend listening to him throughout the show, it was clear that he is an incredible educator -- the kind of person that truly captivates his audience when he speaks.

Clearly, I'm quite the fan girl.

Now, let's check out the great product recommendations James had for us.
