Photo Inspiration: Patriotic Nails

With the July 4 weekend just around the corner, you'll be prepping for fireworks, cook outs, and outdoor fun. But you've gotta look the part. Check out these fun patriotic nail art photos to give you just a little bit of inspiration.

I love how this manicure incorporates the red, white, and blue colors, without going for a flag motif. It's subtle and fun with just a hint of preppy. And the glitter accent nail reminds me of a sparkler. Love the creativity on this one.

Another fun way to do red, white, and blue without a total stars and stripes design. Try polka dots and a simple star accent nail.

Love how creative this gal got with the geometric accent nail in patriotic colors.

Oh, and please don't think that I don't like a good flag-inspired manicure. It's just that I rarely see one that doesn't look too busy for my personal taste. That being said, I do like this tutorial from The Beauty Department.

Hope you all have a safe and fun July 4 holiday! What are some of your favorite ways to incorporate red, white, and blue into your beauty?

Photo Inspiration: Boho Braids

There's something about summer that brings out the boho-girl in me. The season just exudes a laid back lifestyle. And the heat just makes the relaxed, flowing style more practical. Plus, it's a pretty significant (and welcome) departure from the buttoned-up, rapid pace of my daily corporate life.

Braids seem to go hand in hand with the summer feel. After all, their romantic, flowing, and to work best they require day-old (a.k.a dirty) hair. Perfect when you need to look nice after spending the day in the sun and sand. Not to mention convenient, lazy summer days don't really lend themselves to daily blow outs.

Check out all the great ways you can look cute and put together while you battle summer's heat.

The waterfall braid is so cute. It looks amazing on day-old beach waves and can take you from a day out on the beach to date night. The trick is to learn how to do them, which I've yet to master.

I'm personally partial to the loose side braid (or fishtail if you're getting bored with your everyday braids). It's a great way to pull your hair back without resorting to a pony tail. You can wear it sleek and sweet like Selena Gomez or amp it up for a night out by giving it some volume on top with a bit of teasing.

Add a little texture to a sleek hair do by adding a braid. I love how Isla Fisher does it here, while simultaneously pulling her hair away from her pretty face. Another option is to add just a few small braids your hair like the gals below.

The braided top knot is a great way to do an updo that's simple and has a little texture. Who best to show us how it's done than the queen of boho-chic style herself, Mrs. Nicole Richie.

Photo Inspiration: The Maxi Dress

Let's just put this out there from the onset: I love a maxi dress.

It's perhaps the easiest way to roll out of bed, throw something on, and still look like you put some effort into your outfit. Maybe I love them so much because I'm lazy. Or maybe I can blame the Florida heat that makes essentially all clothes unbearable during the summer. Or possibly, I love them so much because I like to eat cake and ice cream and easily camouflage it.

But honestly, what's not appealing about an outfit that requires minimal effort, flatters pretty much everyone, is comfortable, and incredibly versatile?

They're loose. They're drappy. They're romantic. They're forgiving. And you can look absolutely amazing and fashionable wearing one, while still looking approachable and down to earth.

Who doesn't want to look like they're zen and low key? I think a maxi is the wardrobe equivalent of a Xanax. The best part: you don't need a prescription. You can wear a maxi and enjoy some cocktails. And while they may be addicting (I can't seem to stop buying them), they won't endanger your health.

Just look at how relaxed and casual the ladies in these photos look? And none of them look overly put together. It's probably the one bohemian style I feel comfortable pulling off.

I simply love how easy it is to style. Wear it alone with flats or throw on a hat and some casual jewelry for a relaxed and casual style. With the maxi, it's all about how you accessorize (kind of like your plain little black dress). You can take the same dress from daytime-beach-stroll-cool to evening appropriate, styling it in so many ways that people might not notice you're repeating it as often as you are.

In the summer, when you don't want to wear too much extra fabric, grab your favorite light weight scarf and layer it over a plain maxi to give it a little extra pop of color or pattern.  I love how Lex What Wear styled her black maxi with a colorful infiniti scarf and she skipped looping the scarf, making it a lot easier to breathe when the temps rise. I also like using a regular, over-sized scarf with a fun print or color and just leaving it open and flowing in the breeze (so it doesn't end up feeling like it's choking me in the heat).

Add a jacket to the mix and you can edge up this girly style and even use the jacket to make a dressier fabric more casual. I especially like how the photo on the right mixed the casual belt and jacket with the dressier fabric and heels. Layering your maxi with a jacket is also great when the temperature starts dropping and you're not quite ready to give up your maxi dress comfort. And don't forget the difference adding a belt can make to the look and style of your maxi.

Just like you can dress it down, a simple change of jewelry, shoes, and makeup can transform this into an evening appropriate look you can wear to a soiree, date, or even a wedding. I like dressing up a maxi with a strappy pair of heels or sandals, a few key pieces of jewelry (chunky or delicate depending on the dress), sun-kissed makeup, and a hairstyle that's done, but still loose and relaxed.

My favorite way to wear a maxi? Simply. Just the dress, some sandals, earrings or a cute necklace, and a fedora.  What about you?

Photo Inspiration: Bold lips

We all seek inspiration in different places. Whether it's on Pinterest, magazines, your favorite shows, or just watching people on the street -- there are so many opportunities to get our creative fires burning every day. As I was perusing the internet for to spark ideas (whether new products to try or looks to attempt to recreate), I thought why not share some of the things that I find that help inspire the posts that eventually end up on this blog or YouTube. From beauty to fashion to home decor or anything else that inspires the trends we all eventually want to try, I'd like to share some photos to help inspire us all.

With that said, I wanted to start with one of my favorite looks: the bold lip. This is one that really took me a while to warm up to because it intimidated me. I felt like I couldn't pull it off. Like I was a little girl playing with her mother's makeup. But in reality, simple makeup with a bold lip can work for just about anyone. You just have to find the shade that you're most comfortable with. For me, red was the gateway. But finding the right shade of red took a while.  Once I found it and started to feel comfortable wearing it, I started to venture out and discovered just how much I love a bright, bold lip.

This is absolutely my favorite way to wear a bold lip. I just love how her lashes bring attention to her eyes without competing with that rich bold neon pink lip.

A bold lip doesn't always have to be super bright, I love how Emma Stone rocks this softer hue and still makes it the focus of her look.

Violet might look intimidating but it's an incredibly fun and unexpected color to wear.

Of course, we can't forget a classic red pout, and I think no one rocks a red lip quite like Gwen Stefani. I wonder just how many different shades of red lipstick are in her makeup drawer?

And don't forget that lipstick isn't the only way to achieve a bold look. If you're not a lipstick girl or you want to lighten your makeup up for summer, try a boldly colored lip gloss, stain, or tinted balm.

Don't let a bold hue intimidate you. As with all makeup, it's all about wearing it with confidence and finding a color that works for you by making sure it compliments your skin tone (think cool, warm, or neutral tones). How do you feel about a brightly colored kisser? What are some of your favorite hues?
