Shopping Guide: Affordable Last-Minute Mother's Day Gifts

1. JC Penney Bib Necklace ($22) & Bangle Set ($9) | 2. Pave Station Bangle ($38) | 3. Black & White Frame ($20)  | 4. Abstract Print Sheer Scarf ($18)

The clock is counting down to Mother's Day and you still haven't quite gotten your act together and gotten dear ol' mom a gift. Don't worry, you're not alone. Getting someone, especially mom, a great gift can be a daunting task. But just because you procrastinated, doesn't mean your gift needs to reflect it. You still have time to get mom a gift and make it look like you put a little thought behind it. After all, it's the thought that counts, right? We just want to make sure it doesn't seem like an after thought.

With that in mind, we put together a quick shopping guide to give you some ideas you can easily go pick up at the store (unless you want to spend extra cash on expedited shipping). You know, in case you're not comfortable getting mom any of the beauty gift suggestions in our post last week (check it out here). Best of all, none of these ideas will break the bank. All of them clock in under $40, because mom taught us to be savvy shoppers.

1.  Statement jewelry. J. Crew popularized the bubble necklace, but with a hefty $150 price tag for costume jewelry, it wasn't exactly accessible to everyone. But you can help mom be stylish on a budget. JC Penney has bubble necklaces on sale right now for only $22. And if mom is so on trend that she's been rocking a bubble necklace already, don't worry. JCP has other cute statement pieces available to choose from, all at reasonable prices.

If necklaces aren't her style, consider adorning mom's wrist. Bracelet stacking is quite the look these days, but sometimes picking the right bracelets to stack together can be tricky. Done wrong and your wrist looks less like a party and more like the aftermath you dread having to clean up. Make it easy to pull this trend off by purchasing bangle sets that are already put together for you like the one pictured above, which by the way is only $9.  P.S. You can also find great statement jewelry at reasonable prices at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.

2. Dainty accessories. Listen, jewelry is a popular gift for a reason. But if your mom is not one for big bold pieces, consider some cute dainty options like the pave hear bangle from Nordstrom. It's a beautiful timeless piece and the heart is simple but classic. Check out Nordstrom, JC Penney, TJ Maxx, Khols, and other retailers for similar items.

3. Give the gift of memories. Maybe you're tired of giving mom jewelry and feel like giving her something a little more personal. Except now you've waited so long, you don't know if that's even possible. Don't worry, there's still time. Go through your computer and find some of your favorite photos of you with your mom (or family shots). Bonus if they were taken on some fun family outing/occasion. Then run to your nearest photo center, have them printed up, and put them in pretty frames. You can find some awesome designer decorative frames at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Home Goods (we're talking anything from $7-$15). The black and white one pictured above is from Pier 1. Mom will love the sentiment. Plus, the decorative frames will give the gift that extra oomph.

4. Scarves. If the typical jewelry and flowers doesn't really do it for you anymore. Try giving mom a fun and colorful accessory, like the LuLu abstract print scarf pictured above. Scarves make awesome gifts and they are totally in fashion for Spring. Think of getting a style that makes a statement with bold colors, fun prints, or both. But, since the weather is warming up, make sure the scarf you pick is made of a light weight fabric. She'll be able to pair it with numerous outfits to give them a little pop of color or flair and she can even wear them in her hair. I love how beautiful scarves look all wrapped up in a box. The best part is that you can find lots of beautiful styles at a variety of price points. The LuLu scarf pictured above is less than $20, but looks like you spent more.

Tip: Make sure the fabric is soft and feels nice against the skin. It will give the scarf the appearance of being super luxe (even if you only spent $20). If you have the budget, spring for great fabrics like silk and modal.

What do you think? Are these gifts you'd consider giving your mom?

Happy shopping. And don't forget to give your mom a huge hug and thank her for being so great.

Spruce up your home on a budget

1. Love Pillow (Target) | 2. Threshold Diamond Throw Pillow (Target) | 3. Damask Embroidered Pillow (Pier1) | 4. Springkorn Rug (IKEA) | 5. Cabana Accent Rug (Pier1) | 6. Blue Square Vase (Target) | 7. Yellow Mod Vase (Target) | 8. Round Clock with Amber Gems (Pier1)

I know this is predominantly a beauty blog, but from time to time I also like to explore things like shopping and fashion. And fashion isn't limited to what you wear. You can apply your personal style to your home as well. So, indulge me for a post while I chat about a little bit of home decor.

With spring slowly waking up from its extra-long hibernation this year and gracing us with sunshine and happy weather, I find myself looking around my home and thinking it it could use a little updating. I've been on a bit of a redecorating kick, which predominantly took form in reorganizing. But I can't help but feel that's not enough this year. Our furniture is just staring to look a little dull. Unfortunately, I don't have endless funds to simply replace all of my furniture on a whim, so we are picking and choosing which rooms absolutely need new furniture (ahem, master bedroom) and which could be livened up with just a few new accessories.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, just wanting something to look fresh and new but can't got replacing everything on a whim consider some budget friendly ways to make any room look refreshed. The best part is, some of these are so easy on the wallet, you could refresh your home a few times a year (if you get the whim to) without really causing too much damage to your bank account.

Fresh pillows
Getting new pillows for your couch,  accent chairs, or bed is a super easy way to breath a little life into your room. It can make a piece that feels tired to you (even though you know it's still in good shape and doesn't really require replacement) look refreshed. You can mix and match patterns and bright colors that will give you something new, fun, and exciting to look at and quell those feelings to completely overhaul the entire room. After all, we pay good money for those larger pieces in our home. They are supposed to last a long time. You're bound to get tired of looking at them before they are ready to be replaced. A few new accent pieces can help you get a lot more mileage out of that piece of furniture and set you back less than $100.

Colorful accent rugs and eye catching accessories
Maybe it's not your couch you're tired of looking at. Maybe you're completely uninspired by your entire living room or patio (balcony in my case) or kitchen. These rooms you suddenly loathe might very well need a complete over haul, but more likely you might just be bored and a few new accessories can make everything seem new. Think about your favorite black dress. Do you always wear it the same exact way? Or do you use different accessories to dress it up, make it more casual, or make it work or date night appropriate? Apply those same styling ideas to your home. A new statement necklace can totally change up an outfit. So can a new accent rug. Bright nail polish can make a serious outfit look more fun and so can a bright and colorful vase. A stack of bracelets can give a glamorous or boho vibe to your ensemble, so can a gallery wall. Just rearrange your current art and add a central new piece like a mirror, or even buy new frames for your family photos.

Any of these ideas could easily run you less than $200, depending on what you choose and where you buy. Target, Home Goods, TJ Maxx, Kirklands, Pier 1, and many other locations offer a myriad of ways to spruce up your decor at fair prices. And the hunt is always part of the fun. Plus, if none of these ideas seem to work, don't forget that a fresh coat of paint can help you completely transform a room without having to replace any of your current decor.

What are some of your favorite ways to make your home feel new again? And how often to you find yourself using them?
