Product Review: Sephora Microsmooth Foundation Powder & Bronzer

Product basics:
  • Sephora describes this as an ultra-light and easy-to-blend, fine-milled, baked powder that feels airy and gives a natural look and finish. (I agree with this description)
  • Paraben and fragrance free
  • Made with mineral water
  • 0.24 oz or 7 grams of product in the powder foundation ($22)
  • 0.28 oz or 8 grams of product in the bronzer duo ($19)
Pros:
  • Lightweight and easy to blend
  • Smooth, velvety, matte (foundation) finish that gives your skin a luminous look without shine, shimmer, or glitter. The bronzer also has a smooth and velvety feels but has a matte and shimmer section.
  • A your-skin-but-better finish -- natural, finish that is not cakey or powdery
  • Foundation comes in eight shades, and the bronzer duo comes in two shades
  • Similar to MAC Mineralize Skin Finish product line (I could not tell the difference and I have used the MSF powder foundation)
  • Comes with plenty of product at a mid-level price
  • Because it is baked, it can be used wet or dry (I spritz my powder brush lightly with water and use it that way, you don't want it to be wet just lightly dampened)
  • Easy to build up coverage from light to full as needed (I tend to stay between light and medium, and use concealer if I need any additional coverage).
  • Great all year, but perfect for spring and summer because it is so light
  • Can be worn alone, or on top of tinted moisturizer/foundation (my preferred method)
  • Sturdy compact with a clear top
Cons:
  • No SPF, so just remember to apply sunscreen (you should be doing that anyway, right?)
  • No compartment for a powder puff makes it a bit difficult to take with you for touch ups, unless you also bring a travel powder brush with you

Other products in this line include the Microsmooth Blush Duos ($17).

Have you used this new line? What do you think? Are you interested? Will you use this in favor of the MAC MSF?

    1. Mine does not have shimmer in it. The bronzer has a matte and shimmery side, but the powder (at least the two I've purchased) don't have any shimmer.
